Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin confidently declared that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) would not only win the 2026 Assembly elections but all future elections, dismissing Opposition claims of cracks within the ruling alliance. His remarks were made in response to statements by Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS).
EPS, during a speech in Salem, claimed that fissures were emerging within the DMK alliance, suggesting that certain alliance partners were making demands. He cryptically mentioned that confidential discussions were ongoing between his All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and some of DMK’s allies, hinting at potential defections. “Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Communist parties are placing certain requests. This is only the beginning,” EPS said, without revealing specific details.
EPS’s comments referred to recent events involving the Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s (CPIM) trade union, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), which led a Samsung workers’ protest demanding unionisation, and remarks by VCK’s Deputy General Secretary, Aadhav Arjunan, about power-sharing within the alliance.
Breaking his silence, Chief Minister Stalin responded sharply, saying EPS had turned into an “astrologer” with his predictions of the DMK alliance’s collapse. “EPS is driven by jealousy and frustration, claiming DMK’s popularity is waning and that our alliance will break. I thought he was dreaming, but now he seems to be predicting the future,” Stalin remarked.
Stalin emphasised that the DMK alliance was formed not for electoral gains but based on shared ideology. “There may be discussions within the alliance, but that does not mean there are cracks. Our alliance, whether in power or not, is committed to serving the people,” he said.
Highlighting DMK’s commitment to governance, Stalin contrasted his party’s leadership with that of EPS. “When Tamil Nadu faced heavy rains, I was present in the field, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi was present, and so were our ministers, MLAs, and other representatives. EPS, however, hid in Salem,” Stalin remarked.
Further, Chief Minister Stalin said, “Don’t keep dreaming, EPS. I assure you that DMK will win the 2026 Assembly elections and every election after that.”
